Why Having a Birth Photographer is a Priceless Investment

Why Having a Birth Photographer is a Priceless Investment

Can I tell you a secret? After coming down off my excitement from finding out I was gonna be a mama. I immediately, hit up google to research local birth photographers (insert chuckle). Long story short, we found the perfect one and the rest is history.

There have been several questions circulating about why do people even hire birth photographers. I mean, we all have camera phones now right? Professional Cameras are even becoming a household necessity.

After having birth photographers for our sons’ arrivals. I thought it would be great to provide some insight to any mama that cant decide if she wants to hire one or not. If this is you, Keep Reading.

Here are some reasons why we decided to hire a birth photographer instead of taking pictures ourselves.

Birth Memories

I know this is stating the obvious, but we don’t think about how precious memories are until they are just in our heads. I’m such a sentimental sap and natural documenter. Photography and Videography have always been a huge love for me. So deciding to have a birth photographer to capture these memories wasn’t too much of a shocker. Plus, I was too busy giving birth to take them myself:)

Takes Pressure Off Spouse

Besides mom being a bit nervous about the entire birthing process. I’m sure your partner will be too. They will want to be fully present and support you in every single way. It might not be a good idea for them to juggle a camera too. I personally didn’t want to put that kind of pressure on my husband. I think he was a bit relieved he wasn’t the sole documenter for our births. There is no asking the doctor or nurse for a replay.

Shared My Support System

It’s no secret that both my pregnancies were hard on me. There were plenty of times, my husband just sat and held my hand while I cried. The birth photographer captured full circle moments of his support as we approached the finish line.

At home, he provided endless undocumented support during my pregnancy. The last thing I wanted to do was take pictures of me vomiting in the toilet. Seeing these moments captured in the hospital was moving.

Journey Reminder

Sometimes when I get those mama blues, I go back and look at my birth photos. It reminds of the amazing journey and chapter that started when I met my children face to face for the first time.

Missed Moments

When we went back and looked at our birth photos for the first time. It was simply amazing. I really can’t put into words what it feels like. It’s such a world wind during the entire process. The photographers captured so many amazing moments we weren’t even aware of. I couldn’t stop thanking them. These are moments we can share with them even when they get older.

Let’s be clear. Of course, we took plenty of our own photos with our phones too, but we were not concerned with worrying if we got a shot of this or that. We felt good knowing the photographer captured everything we requested plus more.

Although reason people may not hire a photographer is cost. I totally get it. Things add up quickly when a baby is on the way. I still suggest having a 3rd party take photos if you really want to get these once in a lifetime memories caught. This might not even cost you a dime.
