Dreams and Success are things we all want in life.
So here is the question: How do we achieve these aspirations in the mist of this crazy thing we call life? This is always the golden question we always are wasting time trying to find the answer to.
I had the pleasure of being invited to Dining with Bevy: Life with Vision. The Host and Founder, Bevy Smith has been the ever so inspiring woman in entertainment. If you don’t know her name, you have seen her face. She has an impressive resume that includes and not limited to working with Vibe Magazine, VH1, Bravo, Essence and HLN. Bevy has also worked with BET and TVOne as a lifestyle and Fashion correspondent.
Smith created “Dining with Bevy” as a way to bring together like minded individuals to connect on interests and goals. It is a way to build everlasting relationships to grow and pursue your dreams. She considers these once in a lifetime events as social gatherings not networking events.
Bevy is known for her richly tasteful celebrities gatherings that includes guests such as Idris Elba, Solange Knowles, Kerry Washington and Pharrell Williams. The guest list goes on and on:)
After attending this event, I can attest to the description. I had such a lovely time meeting new people and seeing some familiar faces too! There was an array of backgrounds in fashion, public relations, education, blogging, law, community relations and non-profits.
It was so great to see her greeting all her guests one by one as they arrived. Formally introducing herself to everyone she invited.
Bevy spoke during the entire luncheon, which made it really feel like we were all having a nice convo over some great food. She shared her story and how she grew up in Harlem, got her start in entertainment and the “ah ha” moment she had while working at Vibe Magazine as the Fashion Director. She explains, “Vibe magazine was a turning moment for me. Fashion Director at Vibe, work and life collied.”
Bevy described working at Vibe as being in the movie Boomerang. We all remember that movie right? After 3 years she was getting bored. She wanted to write more and work in TV. Of course, she did just that.
She shared a slide show of her truest desires, 3 things she wants out of life.
They are tranquility, clarity and serenity.
During the presentation she also shared her vision board.
A board of photos and ideas of what you want out of life. These things may be in your career, love, way of thinking, ideas etc. Bevy’s board was filled with color, West Africa, “Malibu Bevy” (her other nickname) , Gratitude, Health Equals Wealth and photos.
As the event continued, she wanted us to see that anything is possible and that dreams can become reality, but not without work. I remember feeling like I was sitting in the pews at church and wanted to scream “AMEN.”
Bevy has been saying everything I have been saying others in addition to myself for years.
Here are a some quotes I jotted down:
“People don’t give you opportunities if they don’t feel like you couldn’t nail it”
“You have to make sure your intentions are good”
“Do the work”
“We say we want materialistic things, but what is behind that?”
“When you know what really want, It’s easier to make decisions in life”
“If you are chasing a check, but it has NOTHING to do with your interest. You are wasting your time. ”
“Faith Over Fear”
To sum it all up:
No Dream should not be pursued. If there is something in life you want to do. No matter what the formalities may be. You need to work on attaining them. Dreams can turn into nightmares without helping yourself.
I look forward to staying in touch with everyone I have met. š
