Being natural to me is simply embracing the you that God gave you at birth.
It’s not about a fad or trying to look like you are “deep”. Not that there is anything wrong with having a relaxer or a weave if you so choose, natural in essence is about recognizing that you don’t have to have those things to meet the “beautiful hair standard” society thinks you should have. As long as you know that you are beautiful rocking your natural hair, your beautiful hair standard for yourself has been met!
Here is a poem I wrote to show some of my thoughts on natural hair called “Not an Anti-Weavist”:
“Sew what? In where? I don’t think I want weave all in my hair. My grows strong from root to tip, I can style my natural tresses for free instead of putting the weave in and paying a grip!
I don’t worry much about the weather messing up my hair these; and I know that if the wind blows my hair-do will stay.
Let’s not forget I can sleep free of propping my head up on my hand and when it’s time to get it poppin in the bedroom my boo can grab my hair on demand!
I am not an anti-weavist I am just pointing out facts, so all of you who have weaves and are reading this relax!
I have nothing against those who choose to wear the Yaki w/thread or glue cause to feel beautiful a woman’s got to do what a woman’s got to do!”
