Happy 2014 Everyone!
Well, Christmas is over. The gift giving has come to a close.
So here’s a question for you.
Did you receive a gift that really wasn’t your style? Is it just sitting in a corner or put away in your closet? I have a solution š
This Saturday Simone McDowell of Honee Bee Gifts will be hosting a one of a kind event. All in the name of re gifting. The Flip Your Gift event allows you to bring your unwanted gift to exchange it for something you prefer instead.
The fun starts at 11 am at Interior Motives located at 2425 South Boulevard.
Guests are asked to bring a gift worth $10 or more to be exchanged. Mix and Mingle with Mimosa’s and cute eats.
Local boutiques JT Posh, Cottage Chic and The Boulevard at Southend will be showcasing the latest items from their shops.
Register to attend here.
We had a chance to chat with Simone about the event. Check it out.
1. How did you come up with the idea for a Flip Your Gift Event?
I literally thought of the idea as I was getting dressed one morning. I love brainstorming and my mind is always open to new ideas and luckily this one stuck. I asked a few friends what they thought of the idea…they loved it and encouraged me to go for it.
2. There is a common stigma surrounding re gifting. Can you share why re-gifting is really ok?
I believe the stigma comes from trying to pass a not-so-great gift off to someone else…maybe something you dusted off in the back of your closet because you forgot so and so’s birthday. Let’s have a mind shift moment!! Re-gifting should be done with just as much thought as purchasing a gift. You still need to ensure that it is a gift that someone would actually like, enjoy and use. Statistics show that a whopping 92% of people believe it’s completely acceptable to re-gift items and more than 62% planned to re-gift an item to a friend, neighbor or colleague during the holiday season.
3. Who are the hardest people for you to get gifts for every year?
My Father, hands down. I say that because he always says he doesn’t want anything and would much rather see everyone in my family open their gifts. I manage to get him something he enjoys but it’s no small feat.
4. What are some good ways to help make your gift buying easier?
My top five tips in making gift buying easier include:
-Do think about the giftee when making a gift purchase(personality, style, etc)
-Don’t rush the shopping process. Take your time and do your research
-Do have a well-stocked gift closet
-Don’t give a gift that you feel ashamed to give or would not want to receive
-Don’t stop with the gift. Pay attention to the gift wrap, boxes & bags.
