We love to feature our readers and meet new people.
Our latest feature comes from Racheal from New York. She’s been natural for over a year now.
Check out her feature below:
1. Tell us about your natural hair journey and give us a mini bio (what you do as a profession? hobbies? where you live..student?)
(Natural or transitioning)
Racheal also known as BkAphrodite; I am a recent grad from Brooklyn, New York. I am exploring career fields at the moment, and expressing my views on love, beauty and kinks on my blog AphroditeKinks
After watching the movie Good Hair by Chris Rock, I was interested in learning more about the whole going natural thing. That same evening I searched the internet looking for ways on how it was done. I took the transition route, simply because I had never had short hair and I didn’t know how big my head was under my hair LoL. I did that for 11 months and head to the salon and pretty much ended up with a Big Chop. Since March 2012, I’ve been natural and ain’t going back!!
2. What are some challenges you have faced with being natural or transitioning ?
When transitioning I had box braids and once removed I washed my hair. I had no idea that I had to comb out the lint from having box braids in for 3 months!! Pretty much I was detangling for 2 hours. Most terrible experience ever.
I also am terribly lazy with styling my hair now so I have it in a puff most of the time.
3. Define what being natural means to you.
4. Any advice for someone that is thinking about transitioning?
Take your time, don’t rush the process. You should also do a lot of protective styles.
5. Describe your style?
Not exactly sure it I have a “style”. I pretty much go with what I’m feeling which is mostly laid back.
